Royal Capital announced the development of a $100MM Health and Equity Campus on King Drive in Milwaukee, in partnership with The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation (GMF). With Royal Capital serving as Developer and Owner, the partnership branded as ThriveOn, is creating a cutting-edge place-based investment, that will include the following:
- MCW Centers and Institutes that are front facing to community. From Population Health and its leaders that focus on the health disparities regarding high blood pressure, hypertension, diabetes, and food access, to international leaders regarding AIDS research, the centers and institutes will now be centralized at ThriveOn to bring an even higher level of service to the community.
- Greater Milwaukee Foundation corporate headquarters. With over $1B of resources on hand, working in partnership at ThriveOn, this national leading Foundation will be better equipped to be of service and deploy key resources that include Impact Investment and patient capital to small businesses, grants to neighborhood organizations, and support for significant studies and engagement that are centered on understanding and then providing solutions to some of the significant gaps in the form of racial equity in the region.
- Affordable Housing: The campus will be introducing both senior and family affordable housing, to counter the significant housing displacement that has occurred among the disadvantaged members of the community in this the near downtown neighborhood.
- Early Childhood Education: With Early Childhood Education (birth to three) being such a critical element on the spectrum of the Social Determinants of Health (SDH), the partnership will invest into a black-led Early Childhood Education center that will bring 5-star accredited services to the neighborhoods. In addition, a significant ongoing investment is being made into existing local early childhood education providers to aid in capacity building while improving the quality of service to our community.
- Food Hall: With food access and education being a critical element in the effort to address poor health outcomes in disadvantaged communities, the partnership will house a food demonstration kitchen that will be influenced by dietitians and other leaders, along with an onsite healthy food and commerce food hall that will bridge both healthy living and commerce among local disadvantaged businesses.
- Health and Wellness: A full-service health and wellness facility will be a part of the campus. This state-of-the-art facility will bring value in the areas of strength and conditioning, sports, and other active individual and group pursuits, while also incorporating a high level of education and programming for youth, adults, and seniors.
- Neighborhood Business Center: In the evolving gig-economy, many members of the community are engaging in the commerce in innovative ways that stretch beyond tradition. The Business Center will incorporate training and development opportunities, access to technology and convening spaces, materials and other, while seeking to be a value add in the space of innovation and grassroots advancements.
- Makerspace: Hands-on learning, that includes both youth and adults, continues to be a mainstay in economic and education development. With tools that inspire creativity, that include woodshop, 3-D printing, audio-visual equipment and other, the on-campus Makerspace will be an active part of the campus while providing universal benefits to many stakeholders.
